TheWholeTextSelect TheWholeText in the Newton Notes applicationby yischon liaw Copyright ©1997, deep focus designsWhat is TheWholeText?TheWholeText (TWT) is an extension that installs a button on the status bar of the Notes application. Tapping on the button selects all text for the active note. You can now select all the text of a note at once and paste it into NewtonWorks. You can now select all the Ink Text of a note at once and convert it all to text. The DetailsTWT works differently than the system implementation of the keyboard Select All, which only selects the current paragraph containing the caret. TWT selects all text within a note even if the text is not in the same text block. This may occur in a note where you have written in different areas of the screen. If there is text hidden because an Outline or Checklist hierarchy is closed, TWT will not select it.If there are graphics elements in the same note, TWT will not select them. You can convert an entire note of Ink Text by just tapping within a note (to make it the active key note), tapping TWT, and double tapping anywhere on the selected text. You don't have to scroll down to select text that flows off the screen.A way to remember what TWT does: TWT selects the text, the whole text, and nothing but the text.RequirementsTheWholeText is only available for Newton OS 2.0 and 2.1 and has been tested on an MP130 and MP2000. No testing on MP120 or eMate300 has been done, but no foreseeable problems exist at this time.InstallationInstall TheWholeText.pkg as you would with other Newton software, by downloading it to your device using the Newton Connection Utilities, Newton Backup Utility, Newton Package Installer, or other package installation utility. TheWholeText will install a button on the status bar of the Notes application.UseTap anywhere in the note from which you want to select text. This makes it the active note. (Technically, it becomes the key view).Tap on the TWT button. All the text will be selected.Do as you wish with the selected text (ie. convert Ink Text, move it to the clipboard, etc.)The selected text will behave differently depending on the stationery:1) Disjointed text (text on different areas of the screen) will not retain their structure if pasted into another block of text. The text will become one large text block. In order to tell if you are pasting into a text block, you will see an insertion cursor (a vertical line).2) Outline or Checklist text will not retain its structure.Version History97.05.29 Initial public release of version 1.0Please send any problems, questions, suggestions, or comments.Enjoy!yischonTheWholeText is free but all rights are reserved by yischon liaw and deep focus designs.
