THE WHEEL byDonald W. Miller, Jr., M.D., FACOGThis is the new version of The Wheel (a gestational age calculator) designed for the 2.0 Newton Operating System. It will not work on any 1.x OS MessagePad. For those of you who used the previous 1.x version, you'll notice that the interface has changed completely and, in my humble opinion, is more intuitive and user-friendly (but only you folks can tell me if that is really the case). This new interface was actually taken from a Java applet that I developed to replace the other clumsy gestational calculators I found on the Internet. If you enter values for the BPD or FL and the numbers disappear, it simply means that the value you entered was outside of the range of accuracy for the corresponding equation and measurement. If you're wondering why I don't have a CRL (crown-rump length) slot, it's because all you have to do is to take the measurement, add 6.5 to it, and you'll have the age in weeks. You don't need a computer to do that!By the way, clicking on any of the inverse labels will display information about each topic. As a disclaimer, no one (especially layperson types) should rely completely on the results obtained with The Wheel since LMPs are unreliable, the gestational ages generated from the BPDs and FLs depend on what equation or table you use, etc., but The Wheel will get you in the ballpark.
