Namecaller is designed to provide very quick access to phone numbers and to the cards in the "Names" application and to the Calls application. This version (version 2) does not use a separate index and should, therefore, has less compatibility problems.Namecaller basically works as follows: first tap the radio button for either Names or Calls (Namecaller will remember this choice until you change it). Then write a person's last name in the name: area. Then tap "Get It". If the last name appears in your names file, a popup menu of the first names and first phone numbers for all persons with that name appears. You can use the telephone numbers directly. Then you can dismiss the popupmenu and NameCaller by tapping outside the menu. Or you can tap the name you want: if your selected app is Names, this will open Names and go to the card; if you selected app is Calls, this will open Calls, and insert the name and phone number on a new blank call. In either case, NameCaller closes. (If the name does not appear as a last name in your Names file, Namecaller will show you a popup of persons with the last name in your names file which is next alphabetically.)After you use it awhile, Namecaller gets more useful. The last 20 names you've enterred are on the Names popup. Selecting a name from the popup is like typing it and the tapping the "Get It" button. If 20 names isn't enough, you can see and tap the last 95 names you've enterred by tapping the "Book" button. The presents a "Big Menu" of the last 95 names. Tapping one will enter it into the name spot and tap "Get It", tapping a blank cell will dismiss the book. A "big menu," by the way, takes up the whole screen. It presents the information in as many columns as it needs to fit it all on the screen, truncating any string too long to fit in its cell. You can also set the "Auto" checkbox. This will make NameCaller open with the Book open every time.If you want to run Namecaller from a button or from the silkscreened buttons (I personally set it to run when I tap the printed word "Names"), I suggest you download RYOIV to make the button. GestureLaunch also works fine.Namecaller is c. 1996 S. Millman. (StephenM35@aol.com). It is freeware.
