When a package is installed, there is a removal script that comeswith it. No matter where the package is installed, internally or on a memory, theremoval script is stored in internal memory. As a result, this script takes upheap space. Heap Saver gathers the removal scripts from all of the packages onthe Newton out of the internal memory, and places them into a special soup. Theresult is that you save between 5k and 20k of heap. The more packages you haveinstalled, the more remove scripts are placed in the special soup, and the moreheap you save. For more information on heap and memory management, please referto Stand AloneÕs FAQ sheet, which can be found at our web site:www.standalone.com.When you install Heap Saver, it is placed in your Extras drawer, and takes effectautomatically after a restart. If you have any questions on how to install HeapSaver, please refer to chapter 2. Tapping on the Heap Saver icon brings up aninformation box which gives the amount of memory currently saved.
